Anntonia<\/span> Cutter was concerned that her 3-year-old son, Johnathan wasn\u2019t speaking clear<\/span>ly yet. They had just moved<\/span> to San Carlos, and Cutter wanted to make sure Johnathan had a strong start in the community. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe used to get so frustrated when trying to communicate with us, because we couldn\u2019t understand him,\u201d Cutter said.<\/span><\/p>\n

She was discouraged and wasn\u2019t sure how to get help. She called the <\/span>First Things First Globe Regional office and was referred to the FTF San Carlos Apache Regional Partnership Council<\/a>, which funds the Developmental and Sensory Screening program.<\/span><\/p>\n

After being screened through the Developmental and Sensory Screening program, Thuy <\/span>Talgo<\/span>-Bishop, the health educator, walked Cutter through steps that resulted in Jonath<\/span>an enrolling into the Rice Pres<\/span>chool, where he received speech and language therapy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cutter was so happy to finally get the help she felt her son needed. Cutte<\/span>r said that Johnathan loves pre<\/span>school, and she can now understand him when he speaks. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I heard those first clear words, I was so overwhelmed that I started to cry,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s so wonderful to hear my son say, \u2018I love you, mom!\u2019 Johnathan loves to sing and I love hearing him as well. I\u2019m just so happy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Johnathan talks more now that he is understood, which is increasing positive interactions with his mom and other adults in his life and building his confidence. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe is so much happier now,\u201d Cutter said. \u201cHe used to get so frustrated when trying to communicate with us, because we couldn\u2019t understand him. I\u2019m so happy he was screened and got the help he needs. It has really changed him and us as a family. I have such a sense of peace now and am happy that I persevered to get my son the help he needed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
