Chantal Tademy<\/span> has been selected as the 201<\/span>9<\/span> <\/span>First Things First <\/span>Southwest Maricopa <\/span>Region <\/span><\/a>Champion for Young Children. <\/span><\/p>\n

The award is given to local champions who actively volunteer their time to raise public awareness of the importance of early childhood development and health. Champions spend a significant amount of time volunteering with FTF and building public awareness about the importance of early childhood issues. <\/span><\/p>\n

Tademy<\/span> raised awareness of the importance of early childhood education by distributing brochures that help parents keep track of their child\u2019s milestones during birth to age 5. She also handed out early literacy information, including books for young children<\/span>,<\/span> to families at a domestic violence shelter in Goodyear. Tademy, who used to work at the shelter, helped introduce early childhood training and programs to the shelter\u2019s staff, so they could provide early childhood resources to parents<\/span> and <\/span>caregivers<\/span> at the shelter<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

We recently caught up <\/span>with <\/span>Tademy<\/span>, who <\/span>now <\/span>works at a local charter school<\/span>,<\/span> to ask her a few questions<\/span> <\/span>about why the early years are important to her. <\/span><\/p>\n

Question: Why do you feel <\/span>e<\/span>arly <\/span>c<\/span>hildho<\/span>od development and health is <\/span>important? <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Answer<\/span>:<\/span> If we polled most adults we would find that they recognize <\/span>that <\/span>the children of today are our futur<\/span>e. Our general hope is that children<\/span> will carry on <\/span>the <\/span>efforts of building a world where growth and advancement are normal<\/span>.<\/span> I believe <\/span>in <\/span>investing in the development and healt<\/span>h of young children<\/span> because it serves as a platform for meeting the essential goal that they have the best foundation for achieving to the fullest capacity throughout their lives. But, what great goal was ever achieved without time and a plan? As professionals and citizens raising up the next generation, it is critical that we dedicate the time, create the plan, and implement measures to increase the health an<\/span>d well-being of our young. That <\/span>is why I partner with First Things First. They are leading the efforts in our state for incre<\/span>asing the success of all Arizona\u2019s children<\/span> <\/span>that <\/span>will hold a long-lasting impact on<\/span> our little ones<\/span> as they<\/span> become the leaders of tomorrow. <\/span>

\n<\/span>Question: How do you suggest other people in your community get involved?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/span>Answer:<\/span> I believe engagement always begins with a willingness to serve. As such, it is important to first find and listen to the needs of <\/span>the <\/span>local agencies that are already working to <\/span>improve<\/span> <\/span>the outcomes for our<\/span> child<\/span>ren. Once you are aware of those<\/span> needs to get involved, share your time, connections and resources and j<\/span>ust jump in!
