Leeanne Lipiczky<\/span> has been selected as the 201<\/span>9<\/span> <\/span>Phoenix<\/span> <\/span>North <\/span><\/a>First Things First Champion for Young Children. <\/span><\/p>\n

The award is given to local champions who actively volunteer their time to raise public awareness of the importance of early childhood development and health. Champions spend a significant amount of time volunteering with FTF and building public awareness about the importance of early childhood issues. <\/span><\/p>\n

Lipiczky <\/span>has raised awareness <\/span>for early education, dental care<\/span> and literacy through hosting collection drives. <\/span>In the fall 2018, she organized a school supply drive that collected<\/span> <\/span>more than<\/span> 3,000 items to <\/span>help<\/span> students entering school. <\/span>In<\/span> October 2018<\/span>, <\/span> <\/span>Lipiczky<\/span> <\/span>spearheaded a dental drive which <\/span>brought more than 5,000 items<\/span> donated<\/span>. Each <\/span>dental kit was packed with the donated supplies and<\/span> F<\/span>irst <\/span>T<\/span>hings <\/span>F<\/span>irst<\/span> information cards <\/span>highlighting <\/span>the importance of <\/span>early <\/span>oral health habits<\/span>. <\/span>Lipiczky <\/span>values early literacy and ensures<\/span> her support<\/span> staff have constant access to community resources that include F<\/span>irst Things First <\/span>informational articles<\/span> and books<\/span> <\/span>so families<\/span> can be aware of early literacy resources that<\/span> promote<\/span> the<\/span> healthy development<\/span> of<\/span> early <\/span>literacy and language<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

We recently caught up with <\/span>Lipiczky<\/span>,<\/span> <\/span>who is a program specialist with the Arizona <\/span>Department of Child Safety<\/span>.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Question: Why do you feel <\/span>e<\/span>arly <\/span>c<\/span>hildho<\/span>od development and health is <\/span>important? <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Answer<\/span>: <\/span> When<\/span> <\/span>designing or <\/span>building any project<\/span>,<\/span> a strong foundation is imperative to ensure the structure stands<\/span>. Children are our future; investing in their<\/span> <\/span>early childhood<\/span> health and development ensures that <\/span>they have a solid foundation w<\/span>hich<\/span> supports their ability to <\/span>achieve<\/span> success. <\/span>Ensuring they meet developmental milestones and stay healthy through their younger years helps to keep them on track and prepared for entering school with eager minds and confidence.<\/span><\/p>\n

Q<\/span>uestion<\/span>: How do you suggest other people in your community get involved? <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

A<\/span>nswer<\/span>:<\/span> <\/span> Anyone,<\/span> at any age can show kindness in their community. <\/span>Reading<\/span> to children at local preschools, <\/span>child care<\/span> centers, schools<\/span> or resource centers <\/span>will <\/span>bring stories to life and help children develop a sense of community. Donating items such as books, dental<\/span> care supplies, school supplies<\/span> or infant care items <\/span>offers critical support to<\/span> families <\/span>struggling<\/span> to provide for their children. Cleaning a local park ensure<\/span>s<\/span> children have a clean and safe place to <\/span>explore and play. Donating<\/span> to local resource agencies <\/span>will alleviate financial pressures and allow staff to stay focused on providing<\/span> program<\/span>ming<\/span> that promotes early childhood health and development. Whether by monetary don<\/span>ations, collections of supplies<\/span> o<\/span>r giving of labor or time;<\/span> one can easily find ways to invest in thei<\/span>r community.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
