Tell them it is OK to feel scared, angry, worried or sad.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Getting Counseling<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Counseling can help you deal with relationship problems, depression, stress and grieving. It is never the fault of the person being abused. No one, not even a family member, has the right to be violent or abusive. Abuse can be when someone hurts your body or touches you in a way you don\u2019t want. Abuse can also be cruel words or a threat. You can call or text 1-800-422-4453. Your call is private. If it is an emergency, call 9-1-1. These are some signs of possible child abuse:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Unexplained bruises or marks<\/li>\n<li>Unexplained pain, swelling or bleeding<\/li>\n<li>Trouble sleeping or nightmares<\/li>\n<li>Fear of parents or other adults<\/li>\n<li>Slow development<\/li>\n<li>Fear of being left alone<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Abuse of an Adult<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>These are signs of violence between partners. If someone close to you does any of these things to you or someone you know, use the resources on this page to get advice or help.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Shoves or hits you, pulls your hair or uses any other physical force against you<\/li>\n<li>Is very jealous<\/li>\n<li>Expects you to be perfect<\/li>\n<li>Does not let you see your family or friends<\/li>\n<li>Checks your phone or email without your permission<\/li>\n<li>Insults you often, especially in front of others<\/li>\n<li>Is cruel to children or animals<\/li>\n<li>Breaks or hits things<\/li>\n<li>Uses physical force in sex<\/li>\n<li>Threatens to report you to immigration<\/li>\n<li>Threatens to take away your children<\/li>\n<li>Does not let you get a job<\/li>\n<li>Takes your money<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table style=\"height: 33px; width: 100%; border-collapse: collapse; background-color: #f3f3f3; margin: 30px 0;\" cellpadding=\"45%\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\">\n<h1><span style=\"font-size: 28px;\"><strong>Abusing or Neglecting a Child is Against the Law<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<p>Abuse includes yelling at, hitting or having sexual contact with a child. Neglect is leaving young children alone or not giving them things they need, like food, shelter and clean clothes. If you suspect abuse or neglect, take it seriously and report it. Call the <a href=\"https:\/\/dcs.az.gov\/report-child-abuse\">Arizona Child Abuse Hotline<\/a> at 1-888-767-2445.<\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"font-size: 28px;\"><strong>Shaken Baby Syndrome<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<p>It is never OK to shake, hit or jerk any child or put them down roughly. Babies\u2019 neck muscles are not strong enough to hold up their heads. This means they can get brain injuries from being shaken or treated roughly. These brain injuries can lead to permanent health problems or death.<\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"font-size: 28px;\"><strong>What to Do in Case of Abuse<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>In an emergency, call 9-1-1.<\/li>\n<li>If you are scared, talk to the police now. Set aside clothes and money for yourself and your children. You may need to leave in a hurry.<\/li>\n<li>Many areas have shelters where women and children can live safely. The shelter will help you get legal help and make plans for the future. To find a shelter, contact the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehotline.org\/\">National Domestic Violence Hotline<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>If you do not live with a partner who did or does abuse you, you can get a restraining order.
