You recognize each other\u2019s facial expressions and tone of voice. You often know what your baby is communicating, even without words. Your baby is eager to learn about the world around them, and you have lots of new ways to teach them.<\/p>\n<p>Babies learn by exploring with their mouths, eyes, ears and hands. Give them things to touch, grab, push, throw and safely put in their mouth. In general, after 6 months old babies are more active and have more control of their movements. They are also curious and learning how they can connect with you and things around them. If you have any questions about how your baby is developing, talk to their doctor or contact the <a href=\"https:\/\/des.az.gov\/services\/developmental-disabilities\/early-intervention\/families\">Arizona Early Intervention Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>You can learn more about ages and stages <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ftf-stg.magnetry.com\/resources\/ages-and-stages\/your-baby-at-6-months\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Between 6 and 9 months, <\/strong>your baby may:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Hold objects and move them from hand to hand.<\/li>\n<li>Respond to their name and look when you call them.<\/li>\n<li>Understand simple words like \u201cno,\u201d \u201cbye-bye\u201d and \u201cbottle.<\/li>\n<li>Make lots of babbling sounds that imitate words, including \u201cda da da\u201d and \u201cma ma ma.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Start to scoot or crawl.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Between 9 and 12 months<\/strong>, your baby may:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Copy sounds and gestures.<\/li>\n<li>Point to toys or foods when asked.<\/li>\n<li>Get into a sitting position without help.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>First Teeth<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Your baby\u2019s first teeth may come in during these months. Earlier or later is also normal, though. And you can watch videos and learn more about helping your baby have healthy teeth <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ftf-stg.magnetry.com\/resources\/healthy-teeth\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Helping Your Baby Sleep All Night<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Most babies can go back to sleep by themselves by 6 months old. To help:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your baby probably still needs naps in the morning and afternoon. But try not to let them nap for more than three hours.<\/li>\n<li>Be active with your baby during the day. It&#8217;s no surprise that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ftf-stg.magnetry.com\/first-things\/physical-activity-helps-babies-get-more-sleep\/\">physical activity helps babies get more sleep<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Put your baby to bed when they are sleepy but not yet overtired.<\/li>\n<li>By 6 months many babies don\u2019t need an overnight feeding. But make sure they eat enough during the day and before bedtime.<\/li>\n<li>Have a bedtime routine, like a bath, a book and a kiss before you turn the lights off.<\/li>\n<li>If your baby wakes at night, check on them quickly and quietly.
