They can help you find resources, information and emotional support. To find a parent group, contact the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.parentcenterhub.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Center for Parent Information and Resources<\/a>, your local hospital or\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.raisingspecialkids.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Raising Special Kids Arizona<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you need a break or help with child care or housework, see if you qualify for In Home Support Services. Contact your local\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/des.az.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Department of Economic Security<\/a>\u00a0office.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"style1\" \/>\n<h2>Help Your Child Do Well in School<\/h2>\n<p>The school district must evaluate your child if you think he may have a disability. This service is free. If the tests show that he has a disability, the school must work with you to develop an individual education program (IEP) for him.<\/p>\n<p>Children with disabilities and special needs should be included in all school\u00a0activities and sports. Public schools must provide services and adaptive equipment if your child needs them in school. For example, a handle on a pencil can help a child write. For computer resources and other tools, contact\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aztap.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arizona Technology Access<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Support Your Growing Child<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>As your child\u00a0grows, help her find ways to do things on her own or\u00a0with as little help as possible. Allow her to make mistakes and be creative.<\/li>\n<li>Help her practice making choices and decisions.\u00a0She will need these skills as she grows up.<\/li>\n<li>Look for older children or adults with your child\u2019s disability. They can be role models and give support and information.<\/li>\n<li>Ask your school district about services for preschoolers with special needs.\u00a0The earlier your child gets help, the better. Many programs start before kindergarten.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Health Care and Financial Help<\/h3>\n<p>Your child may qualify for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Social Security<\/a>\u00a0or low-cost or free health care even if your family does not. A child cannot be turned down for health insurance coverage just because he has a disability.
