Know where your child is at all times. Make sure relatives and others who care for your child also follow these safety tips.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ftf-stg.magnetry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Toddler-Safety-1.jpg\" alt=\"Toddler-Safety\" width=\"848\" height=\"469\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Never Leave Small Children Alone in the Kitchen<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Turn pot handles to the back of the stove.<\/li>\n<li>Keep your child away from the stove when you cook.<\/li>\n<li>Keep knives and other sharp utensils away from the edge of the counter.<\/li>\n<li>Be careful with ironing boards and irons. Children can tip them over and get burned.<\/li>\n<li>Put cleaning supplies, chemicals and appliances in cabinets with safety latches.<\/li>\n<li>Empty buckets right away. A child can drown in a bucket.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Never Leave Small Children Alone in the Bathroom<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Keep a childproof knob on the door.<\/li>\n<li>Keep medicines, scissors, razors and personal care products in cabinets with safety latches. Keep medicines in their childproof bottles.<\/li>\n<li>To prevent burns, set the water heater at 120\u00b0F and test the water with the inside of your wrist or a thermometer.<\/li>\n<li>Use slip-proof mats inside and outside the tub.<\/li>\n<li>Always drain the tub. Keep the toilet lid closed. A child can drown in a few inches of water.<\/li>\n<li>Unplug appliances and keep them out of reach so your child cannot pull them into the water.<\/li>\n<li>Stay with your child while he is in the bath.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6589\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ftf-stg.magnetry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Water-Safety.png\" alt=\"Water Safety Tips\" width=\"1224\" height=\"792\" \/><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>THINGS YOU CAN DO<\/p>\n<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6588 alignright\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Toddler-Safety-2.jpg\" alt=\"Your toddler's safety around pools\" width=\"250\" height=\"200\" \/>Keep Your Home Safe<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Put in smoke alarms and check them often.<\/li>\n<li>Teach your toddler not to touch things that can be hot, like stoves, heaters, fires, barbecues and matches.<\/li>\n<li>Keep small objects, sharp tools, balloons and plastic bags out of your child\u2019s reach.<\/li>\n<li>Keep houseplants out of reach\u2014many are poisonous.<\/li>\n<li>For more tips, see\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.safekids.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Safe Kids USA<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Car Safety<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Arizona law says that children ages 2 to 5 must be in the back seat in car seats.<\/li>\n<li>The law also says that children must be in booster seats from age 5 until they are 8 years old or at least 4&#8217;9&#8243; tall. To learn more, see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.safekids.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Safe Kids USA<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.healthychildren.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Healthy Children<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Children should ride in the back seat with a seatbelt until age 13.<\/li>\n<li>Never leave children alone in a car. The air inside can heat up quickly and a child can die. And children can play with the gears or brakes and make the car move. See\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.safercar.gov\/parents\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Safercar.gov<\/a>\u00a0for more information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Gun Safety<\/h3>\n<p>The safest home is one without a gun. If you do have a gun, lock the unloaded gun in one place and the ammunition somewhere else. Use a safety lock on the gun. Teach your child never to play with guns. Ask if there are guns at the homes your child visits.<\/p>\n<h3>Water Safety<\/h3>\n<p>Drowning is a major cause of death and injury in young children. This is especially true in places like Arizona, where there are a lot of swimming pools. Never leave your child alone near water. Make sure pools are fenced on all sides and the gates are locked. Keep buckets empty and upside down.
