Add a crying\u00a0baby or squirmy preschooler in the back seat\u00a0and even a quick trip to the corner store can accelerate a parent&#8217;s stress level.<\/p>\n<p>Traffic is unavoidable at times, but you&#8217;ll feel a lot calmer behind the wheel\u00a0if you understand the basics of protecting your most precious cargo \u2013 your kids.<\/p>\n<p>According to a recent study in\u00a0the\u00a0Journal o\u200b\u200b\u200bf Pediatrics, an average of eleven children a week were involved in fatal car accidents between 2010 and 2014. Of those kids, 43 percent were unrestrained or improperly restrained and another 15 percent were sitting inappropriately in the front seat.\u200b\u200b Another fact\u200b\u00a0to remember, especially in Arizona, is\u00a0that the Federal Highway Authority also identified that 62 percent\u00a0of\u00a0crashes occurred\u200b\u00a0on rural roads.\u200b\u00a0\u00a0\u200b\u200b<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4951 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ftf-stg.magnetry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/car-safety.jpg\" alt=\"Be good to your backseat drivers\" width=\"1224\" height=\"792\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Just like when purchasing your family car, choosing a car seat is not all about looks \u2014 it&#8217;s about safety. When considering what is best for you and your family, remember these\u200b\u200b\u00a0Arizona safety laws:\u00a0\u200b\u200b\u200b<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Rear-facing car seats:\u00a0<\/strong>must be used by infants and toddlers until 2 years of age or until they have outgrown the highest weight or height set by the car seat manufacturer.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Forward-facing car seats:\u00a0<\/strong>must be used by toddlers and preschoolers who have outgrown their rear-facing car seats.<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u200bBooster seats:\u00a0<\/strong>must be used by preschoolers until they reach 4 feet 9 inches or until they have outgrown the highest weight or height set by the car seat manufacturer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Remember, these laws are in place to keep you and your family safe.<\/p>\n<p>IMPORTANT UPDATE<\/p>\n<p>In August 2018, the American Academy of Pediatrics announced revised child safety seat guidance, advising that young kids should ride rear-facing for as long as possible, up to the limits of their car safety seat.
