Sometimes there are challenges around feeding, or sometimes the questions are about babies that are hard to soothe or comfort.<\/p>\n \u201cThe first year of a baby\u2019s life is a particular point of vulnerability for parents, babies and families,\u201d Steier said. \u201cParents are finding their way in a new identity, and it doesn\u2019t matter if the baby is their first or their third. Every new baby makes you a new parent.\u201d<\/p>\n The people answering the Helpline phones are experts on babies and young children, and they also know a lot about parents.<\/p>\n \u201cOur staff is trained in a style of working with parents that helps them feel more confident,\u201d Steier said. \u201cThe approach is to walk side-by-side with the parents.
